LAPCS Announces the "Apply Yourself!" Charter School Application Information Series
The Louisiana Association of Public Charter Schools (LAPCS) announced today the launch of the first-ever, high-intensity information workshop series for those preparing charter school applications.
The LAPCS Apply Yourself! Program is a six-part informational series covering the critical aspects of creating a high-quality charter application geared to those undertaking the charter school application process with the aim of opening their doors in Fall 2013 or 2014. The program specifically is looking for community groups who have applied in the past and were not accepted but are reapplying, as well as community groups applying for the first time.
The series will be guided by three principles:
1. Understanding: Workshop participants will leave the program with much greater insight into the application process.
2. Confidence: Armed with new information about key issues, participants will walk away better prepared to create a strong application.
3. Clarity: Applicants will graduate from the series with more clarity about 3rd party application reviews and a greater sense of transparency regarding the process as a whole.
The program will be also provide additional resources through our partner organizations, including the Recovery School District, the Louisiana Department of Education's Office of Parental Options, the National Association of Charter School Authorizers (NACSA), the Orleans Parish Education Network (OPEN) and the Urban League of Greater New Orleans.
Apply Yourself! will kick-off with an introductory session on Saturday, May 19. Those interested in registering click here to submit your information and complete a short preliminary survey. We welcome and encourage participants from across the state to take part in the series.
The announcement of the Apply Yourself! series comes on the heels of Friday's 2012 Request for Applications from LDOE from qualified nonprofits to operate Type 2, Type 4 and Type 5 charter schools. The application is designed to give educators, community and civic nonprofit boards, parents, and teachers the opportunity to create schools that will provide high quality educational outcomes and respond to the needs of the community. Potential applicants are also encouraged to review Bulletin 126, which gives an overview of Louisiana charter law.
